Introduction

A BVI Approved Fund is a lightly regulated investment fund designed for smaller private investor groups such as family members, close business partners, or trusted associates. It offers a practical way to pool capital and manage investments without the heavier regulatory requirements of larger institutional funds.
Approved funds fall under the category of open-ended funds, which means investors can redeem or withdraw their shares from the fund according to a defined redemption schedule. The value returned to investors is calculated using the fund’s Net Asset Value (NAV).

Because of its simplified compliance framework, the Approved Fund structure is commonly used by smaller investment groups that want a regulated vehicle in the British Virgin Islands while maintaining operational flexibility. The structure is overseen by the BVI Financial Services Commission.
